Survival in the aviation industry is determined by cunning, timing and hard work. People within aviation only survive by sometimes getting ahead despite others; the good ones get ahead by sharing their aviation knowledge. That sounds easy, but is very difficult, think of teaching someone about safety issues as you have learned it by doing. In all it is not easy, but it can be when talking about the passion that is aviation. To make aviation work, we gladly have multiple disciplines working together on various topics; this provides interesting material. Reading material about innovations, for instance, engine design, aircraft or airport design and engineering within MRO facilities.

IDEAs are not to recommend how great your products, goods, company is; it’s not a television commercial. The IDEA is for you to show what your thoughts and experiences are, to get in contact with others and have an open discussion. But you can only reach others by writing and sharing, thus possibly inspiring and making aviation a better place.

Mostly you should share a dream, an out-of-the-box idea or knowledge that you gathered that can’t be found in a textbook. But if you are willing to share are you also allowed? Of course, it is not about patented technology, which has to come to the market. It’s about you and what you think, what the future will look like or what the impact is of certain technologies; it’s about your curiosity and what you are passionate about.

You are invited to probe, shake, address and question existing laws, which either threaten the future of aviation or are just plain stupid to begin with. As we are educated to constantly ask: why are we doing this? Why in this manner? Why not do it in other way? Sometimes trial and error are part of the job. But there is no room for error. So also sharing a lack of success is worth writing about. Keep the industry going so no one else has to make the same mistakes. Getting involved is part of your aviation job; so be funny, be entertaining, be professional, keep readers hanging on every sentence you write.

Keep in mind it is not a book. It’s a story about innovation, design or engineering in Aviation. It’s about something greater than you; it’s about inspiring others through sharing your IDEAs.
