Share your food & feed a child

Being an active charity supporter, I came across a social media campaign held by Amsterdam Schiphol airport: Share your food and feed a child. This campaign started on the 24th of April and supports UNICEF. With this campaign, Amsterdam Schiphol Airport is supporting UNICEF in their work to help children worldwide, and specifically children who are malnourished and are not able to feed themselves due to the conditions they live in.

Who can join and support?

Everyone. People supporting the campaign can go to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport’s Facebook page: www.schiphol.nl/shareyourfood.

How?

Anyone supporting the campaign choses his or her favorite restaurant and meal at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport and shares this on their own Facebook page. Amsterdam Schiphol Airport and Host and Select Service Partners Schiphol will then donate 20 cent, per meal that is shared by a person on Facebook, to UNICEF who then will help children who are malnourished and in need of food.

However, the campaign is not limited to people who just stumble upon the Facebook campaign (like me), but Amsterdam Schiphol Airport has made sure that behind the terminals, passengers are made aware of the campaign. For example, the menu’s on the tables at restaurants ask passengers, or the people dining, to choose their favorite meal and share it on Facebook. Also, the people’s favorites are shown on a ‘food feed’ to other passengers, making it easier for others to make a choice. Win-win situation if you ask me.

Oh, and Amsterdam Schiphol Airport has been named as the Best Airport in Europe at the 2012 World Airport Awards held at the Passenger Terminal EXPO in Vienna. Just a little extra news…
